Susan Cleland of Madison knows firsthand how devastating losing a child to suicide can be for the parents as well as for the whole family. In 2019, Susan lost her son Michael, a veteran who went to Afghanistan multiple times, to suicide. After Michael's death, Susan wanted to find a way to help other mothers as well as to bring public awareness of the issues facing our veterans, servicemen and first responders. Susan and her husband Eric created a non-profit organization named "Mission Vigilant" to do just that. This is their second year to hold the "Ruck 22/Buddy Check" event.
In addition to the Ruck, the day will be filled with fellowship, food trucks, a bake contest and sale, kids activities and great music! A resource area will also be provided as well as in-person counseling. The main focus of the event is for those suffering from PTSD and suicidal thoughts to find healing through being with others just like them.
Michele Ladd, the creator of National Veteran Resources, who travels all over the country helping veterans, first responders and their families, will be there in her motorhome offering her assistance. More information about her organization can be found at nationalveteranresources.com.
We will be raffling off a 7-Day/6-Night Vacation stay at a beautiful beachfront home in Destin, Florida.
