Veteran Family

What is Mission Vigilant’s mission?

Mission Vigilant provides confidential, anonymous, credentialed counseling services at no charge to:

  • Veterans

  • Active-duty military

  • Law enforcement

  • First responders

  • And their families

Our mission is simple and urgent: to help curb the tide of suicide within military, law enforcement, and first responder communities.

Who does Mission Vigilant support?

We serve:

  • All branches of U.S. military (active duty, reserve, and veterans)

  • Law enforcement officers

  • Firefighters

  • EMS personnel

  • Dispatchers

  • Corrections officers

  • Federal, state, and local first responder agencies

  • Their spouses, children, and immediate family members

Because our services are confidential and anonymous, we don’t require personal details—only enough information to connect you with the right support.

How can someone get help?

If you are a veteran, service member, first responder, or family member in need of support, getting help is straightforward and confidential.

You can:
📱 Call or text Susan Cleland directly
📧 Email: mvforthe22@gmail.com

What we’ll ask:

  • How you serve/served

  • Whether the support is for you or a family member

  • Your general location (so we can connect you with a nearby counseling office)

  • Whether you prefer Zoom sessions or in-person counseling

No name required unless you choose to share it.

How did Mission Vigilant begin?

Mission Vigilant was founded after Susan and Eric Cleland tragically lost their Air Force veteran son to suicide in June 2019. Their grief became a calling—to stand in the gap for other families.
The nonprofit was formally established in Fall 2023.

What does the name “Mission Vigilant – For the 22” mean?

The name honors a painful truth: an estimated 22 veterans die by suicide every day.
Our name is our promise—to remain vigilant for the 22 still fighting battles no one can see.
